How do you cope with your stress?

Posted by Colton Michaelsen on

Stress! It seems like this is a common emotion/feeling for someone to feel in their lives.

According to Medlineplus, "Stress is your body's reaction to a challenge or demand. In short bursts, stress can be positive, such as when it helps you avoid danger or meet a deadline. But when stress lasts for a long time, it may harm your health."

What do we do to cope with stress?

There are ways to deal with stress in a healthy way. We may get into bad habits, and cope in unhealthy ways. Take care of yourself physically, mentally, and socially. It seems easier than it actually is.

Physically

  • Eat healthy
  • Exercise
  • Get plenty of sleep

Yes, it looks easy as you read those 3 main ways to take care of yourself physically. Developing healthy routines in your life is a great start helping your overall health.

Mentally

  • Take a break from work, school, etc. (Vacation)
  • Practice mindfulness
  • Guided meditation

Have you ever been mentally exhausted? I know I have. Sometimes we need to just take a break. Even if it is only for 10 minutes. Guided meditation is a great mind break from some of the overwhelming thoughts that can flood our brain.

Socially

  • Balance social life (Home and work life balance)
  • Connect with people
  • Make time for your favorite hobby

What's a social life? Sometimes we get caught up in our work. We come home exhausted from the day, and don't take time for ourselves. We give and give to other people, and need to learn to take time to do the things we like to do. We can feel alone, and connecting with someone can be great for our overall health.

There is so much more that we can talk about on this topic. I would love to hear your thoughts in the comment section. Let us know what has worked best for you.
